About Me

Hi, I am Rebecca Jane Angus, and I am privileged to have spent most of my marketing career working in a high-growth RegTech start-up, where I was given the freedom to take risks, try new things, take accountability and lead projects.

When I started work in a start-up there were only 5 team members in a tiny office, now we are over 45+ employees and the company continues to scale. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work for a successful start-up as it has transformed my career. I have been able to develop a broad range of marketing expertise including demand generation, rebranding, product launches, web development, search engine optimisation, events and much more.

Where Did it all Start?

After graduating from Nottingham Trent University in Philosophy and English literature, I did what most people do when there not sure of what their next step should be, I went travelling around the world trying to see as many countries as I could.

When I finally returned home, I knew that I wanted to do something different, meaningful and fun. After putting my name forward to be involved in volunteer work with Reading Voluntary Action, I was approached to help organise a charity fundraising event for Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust and the Reading Partnership Board (RPB) called ‘Party in Sky’. The event was a prestigious black-tie event with music, games, guests, and an auction, which helped raise the funds needed for the charity.

Top business professionals and corporate companies within the Reading and Berkshire area would be invited to attend the event. One such company who brought an entire table was Cisco. Their team were impressed by my hard work and enthusiasm and mentioned that I should apply for the role of Corporate and Social Responsibility Marketing Assistant. After going through a lengthy interview process I eventually got the job and worked at Cisco for a year.

After getting a taste of marketing, I decided that this would be a career for me. I wanted to extend my knowledge in the field, and in particular digital marketing. After some time interviewing, I was hired by Contego Fraud Solutions, a Regulation Technology (RegTech) firm which would later be rebranded as NorthRow, as their Marketing Executive.

As mentioned earlier, NorthRow was a small startup with only 5 team members, who offered a SaaS solution that could digitally transform client onboarding and monitoring processes for regulated organisations.

As a Marketing Executive, I jumped in at the deep end and got stuck into multiple marketing activities, from redesigning the websites, managing the social media, organising events and writing Search Engine Optimised (SEO) blogs. I was free to learn, grow and create. After some time it was clear that we needed to rebrand the company, and I took the initiative to lead the project. After successfully implementing the new brand, website and messaging, I was promoted to Marketing Manager.

The company scaled quickly and I was lucky enough to be part of its success. As a Marketing Manager, I now focus my time with developing the strategy, creating holistic marketing campaigns, optimising lead generation and managing content and product marketing.

I value the fact that the marketing function is the machine that propels a company forward and accelerates growth. Ultimately, I am lucky to be surrounded by a team that cares deeply about the company mission, purpose, employees and users.

Charity Bike Rides

Riding long distances on a bike is pretty satisfying in itself, but I also like to put my cycling hobby to a good cause and I try to sign-up to as many charity bike rides as I can fit in.

Travelling

I love exposing myself to new places, people and cultures, helping to widen my world view. I have been fortunate enough to travel and stay for long periods in time, India, Central America, North America, South America, Indonesia and Vietnam. My favourite place on earth was the Galapagos Islands.

Read Every Day

A simple interest, but a consistent one. I dedicate at least 30-minutes a day to reading anything that will broaden my perspective on life. Pocket, is a great app I use to help save interesting articles and read later on the go.
